This manual gives a flexible approximation to the AISI norms, but including graphs for the simple calculation of columns and deans. It also have innovative comments about the behavior of this framework system to seismic solicitations, the effect of shapes resistance reduction due to torsions and, also, how the shapes selection helps to avoid the effects of local warping.

The objective of this publication is to present a practical guide for structural engineers related to the seismic resistance design in steel construction. It has basic concepts and design criteria for the most usual resistant systems. Its redaction has for reference the publication Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings (AISC 2005a), prepared by the American Institute of Steel Construction, AISC, considering the wide spread of this document in Latin America, as a design ruler or as a bibliography reference. It also includes a brief description of other structural systems that represent a structural engineering advancement that have been applied in countries such as United States and Japan.
